The digital television transition is a switch that all major television stations are currently in the processing of making. This switch is the switch from providing both analog and digital television signals to providing exclusively digital television signals. The switch has been mandated by the government and will officially occur on February 17th, 2009. After the switch analog TVs will no longer work for the viewing of free over the air broadcasts. In order to keep watching TV after the transition you will have to do one of 3 things: subscribe to cable or satellite, get a TV converter box, or get a new digital television. Cable and Satellite cost about $40-$80 per month, a new digital television runs in the neighborhood of $200 and up, and a digital converter box costs $50-$75.
